PS Vita: Everything You Need To Know

Sony Computer Entertainment President Kaz Hirai introduced us to the PlayStation Vita at Sony’s E3 2011 press conference. Formerly codenamed the NGP, Vita is the next generation of handheld gaming.

There will be two models of Vita:

Wi-Fi Model: $249, or go with the 3G for @299 unfortunately you’re forced to suffer with an exclusive contract with AT&T (listen to the crowd laugh and boo at that news)

Of course, if your phone allows you can always WiFi tether your phone to your PSV so having an additional data plan will not be necessary.

Vita is expected to launch this fall.

There are almost 150 developers working on games for the system, so just anybody everybody who has a name in the business is involved.

Some time ago we wrote about the system specs, and while it may be subject to change, you can read about it HERE

Just Add Water announced plans to release ports of Oddworld: Strangers Wrath and Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee. Both titles will feature cross-platform play cloud saves with the PlayStation 3 versions.

LittleBigPlanet is being ported over. The touch screen looks to make level design incredibly easier.

Ken Levine  teased that his development studio is working on a title for Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld, possibly a portable release of BioShock Infinite or maybe a port of the original. Either way, I’ll buy it on day one. Bioshock would be incredible as a handheld first person shooter.

Levine pulled out the device at the conference and called it a “pet project.” He did not offer any other details about the game. Levine also announced BioShock Infinite is getting optional Move support.

God of War Origins Collection is a bundle of the two PSP titles, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. Both are getting a 3D upgrade and will be available before the year is out.

Also announced is the Team Ico collection which will feature HD remakes of ICO and Shadow of th eColossus and both will be full 3D.

Street Fighter X Tekken will have an exlusive character for th PSV version. Cole from Infamous will be a playable fighter.

Modnation Racers is being rebuilt from the ground up.
