I often said that this would be a rare occasion where the movie would actually be better than the book. I was right in my prediction and while The Hunger Games isn’t good enough to be a summer release, it provides an entertaining and engaging story that is sure to be the box office favorite for many weeks to come.
John Carter is based on the Basoom series written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. More specifically it is based on the first novel, A Princess of Mars, written back in 1917. Fans of the book will be disappointed to learn that the film only borrows the major plot points but goes its own route on the smaller stuff. Those that didn’t read the books will still be disappointed but for different reasons.
